Mobile Digital Mammography

Mobile Digital Mammography

As part of our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ to Central Florida, Florida Hospital and Florida Radiology Imaging (FRi) are proud to offer mobile digital mammography, the latest weapon in our arsenal in the fight against breast cancer.

How does the program work?

We make getting a screening mammogram* easy for you, your co-workers or employees as participants by bringing the mobile digital mammography unit to you. We will place the equipment in the room/ location of your choice in your building, ensuring attendees' privacy and comfort during the exam. The participants will benefit from the most advanced technology available for screening mammograms - unlike traditional technology, digital mammography improves the accuracy of images, resulting in a higher breast cancer detection rate.

How do I schedule an event?

Contact our digital mobile mammography event coordinator with details such as location, date and time at least 60 days prior to the tentative date of the event.  She will be in charge of scheduling individual appointments, calling attendees the day before the event to remind them of their appointment and go over preparation instructions for the day of the exam. The coordinator will attempt to collect physician orders and previous mammography films prior to the event to ensure a seamless registration process on the day of the event.  To schedule an event, contact our digital mobile mammography coordinator at (407) 303-1471 or Monica.Lowry@FLHosp.org.

How do I promote the event?

We will provide a promotional kit featuring flyers and other ideas to promote the event onsite.

Who reads and interprets the images?

The mobile digital mammography unit features a portable computer that processes and saves all images. A dedicated women's imaging  radiologist, specialized in breast imaging, from Radiology Specialists of Florida (RSF) will read and evaluate the images off-site.

Who staffs the event and performs the exams?

Florida Hospital and/or FRi employees will handle registration, provide education for the event and perform the exams.

How much does it cost to host an event?

There is no charge for hosting an event.

Is a mobile digital mammogram covered by most insurance companies?

Most, but not all insurance companies cover 100 percent of the co-pay for preventative exams like screening mammograms. We will process each attendee and bill the respective insurance company in the same manner we would at any of our 10 Florida Hospital or FRi screening  locations. If an attendee does not have insurance, we offer an affordable option for self-pay patients. Additionally, the Florida Hospital Breast Cancer Care Fund can cover the cost of the screening mammogram if the attendee qualifies. Attendees must apply for coverage prior to the event by contacting the fund coordinator at (407) 303-1488 or fundcoordinator@FLHosp.org.

What are the location requirements?

There should be a designated registration/check-out area, as well as at least a 100 square-foot room to house the equipment and conduct the exams.

How many screenings can be performed in a day?

We can screen approximately 30 to 50 women a day with one machine, or scan one woman every 10 to 15 minutes. The minimum number of  attendees required per day is 25.

Do attendees need a physician's prescription for a screening mammogram?

It is preferable that the attendees have a prescription from their physician, but it's not mandatory. Should an attendee decide to come into one of our facilities for their screening, then a prescription is required.

What should attendees bring the day of the event?

Attendees should bring their insurance cards and photo identification the day of the exam. If the participant has a physician order and their prior films, they should present them at the time of registration. The coordinator will work with your participants to collect this information prior to the event. All prior films completed at Florida Hospital or FRi will already be accessible to the radiologist for comparison purposes.

Registration Forms

It is required that each attendee fills out a registration form that includes her breast history. Forms are available on our website at www.FloridaHospitalFRi.com/patientresources, under "FRi Breast History Form."

Results

The attendee will receive a letter via mail with her results, and we will contact her if additional views or exams are necessary. We will also  forward a copy of the report to the attendee's physician, and the results should be available five business days after the event, unless we are waiting on comparison images.
